THE CAPTURE TOOL: DECK, CAMERA, AND TIMECODE CONTROLS
Figure 2.35 The DV Scene Extraction window
The system will automatically extract each scene digitized as a subclip. Add a
locator to the beginning of each scene, or both as selected.
To set up DV Scene Extraction after digitizing footage:
1. Click the source clip or clips.
2. Select Bin > DV Scene Extraction.
3. Choose Create Subclips, Add Locators, or Both.
4. Choose a source bin for your subclips.
The system extracts individual scenes from the master clips, based on TOD
information.
Capturing Directly to the Timeline (Xpress Pro Only)
In some cases, your project might require that you capture footage straight into the
Timeline. Xpress Pro can do this, even allowing you to patch tracks when necessary.
There are several reasons for you to want to do this. If your sequence is only a few
shots long and relatively simple in nature, capturing to the Timeline directly prevents
the need to load footage, mark it, and edit it across to a sequence. News organizations
often do this when receiving satellite feeds.
Capturing directly to the Timeline also saves you time. No need to re-mark in
and out points; just do it while capturing. If you’re pretty confident about what you
want and if the job doesn’t require a lot of tape changes, this is a fast way to get it
done. This capability was acquired from Avid’s Newscutter because in news editing,
getting material into a sequence quickly is very important.
To capture directly to the Timeline:
1. Go to the Project window and select Settings.
2. Open your Capture Settings.
