When using FireWire with Xpress Pro and Free DV, you can also control the
source deck. In other words, FireWire not only sends the video data but also can con-
vey information to the deck to play, fast-forward, rewind, and so on. Using FireWire
to control your source deck makes it more convenient. However, there are limitations
with some decks. For example, some decks convey timecode information that is one
frame late. So although your video is captured, the timecode information that goes
with it might be off, even as much as three frames.
Fortunately, there is a way to correct this error after the source is captured, as
you will see later. You can even use a FireWire-enabled camera as a source deck when
capturing.
