PALETTE EFFECTS
AVX effects such as Boris FX and SpiceMASTER have extended editing interfaces of
their own. To open this interface, click the small rectangular icon that appears with
these effects in the upper-left corner of the Avid Effect Editor.
Adjusting Parameters
The Effect Editor lists different groups of adjustable effect parameters in collapsible
twirl-down menus. A twirl-down menu is indicated by a triangle icon pointing at each
specific parameter. When clicked, the triangle twirls down, pointing downward to
reveal specific parameter sliders of each parameter group. If you click the triangle
again, it twirls back to its original pointing position at the parameter group, and the
individual parameters disappear.
Each adjustment of a parameter is controlled by a slider. You can control the
adjustment of each parameter using three different methods:
Click the slider and move it to the right or left.
Click the slider, type in a numeric value for the adjustment, and press Enter.
Click the slider and adjust it in increments by using the left and right arrow keys
on your keyboard.
The result of changing a parameter is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get).
The Record monitor should update to the resulting image.
Each individual effect has adjustable parameters. The number and type of param-
eters will vary greatly, from the simplest wipe (which might contain only a few parame-
ters) to the most intensive AVX plug-in effect (which can contain dozens).
Although it would be impossible to cover all of the effects that are available for
Free DV and Xpress Pro, many of the parameters work and operate the same way.
What follows is a review of some of those parameters.
Border
Many effects—such as wipe, conceal, squeeze, shape and 3D effects—contain a border
parameter. The Border parameter allows you to adjust the color, blend color, softness,
and width of the border of an effect.
Note: When adjusting parameters, you can move 10 increments by holding down the Shift key when
pressing the left or right arrow button. You can also move from slider to slider by using the tab key.Tab moves
to the next parameter;Shift-tab moves to the previous parameter.
