CHAPTER 3: BASIC EDITING ■
The Quick Transition button also allows you to adjust the duration of the transition,
select a drive for rendering the effect, render the effect to the drive, and determine the
position of the effect between segments.
Title Tool Clicking the Title Tool button activates the titling interface for your system.
This is a shortcut to the menu command Clip
> New Title. The Title Tool button cre-
ates titles for your sequence using the fonts available on your computer as well as some
basic geometric figures; controls for varying opacity, shadow, and color; and adjust-
ments for varying opacity or “washing” elements onto the screen.
Render Effect When you create an effect such as a dissolve, the system can frequently
reproduce the effect during playback. Effects such as these are called real-time effects.
When you add an effect to the Timeline, you will notice that an effect icon appears.
There is also a dot next to the effect, which is either green or blue. To the far right of
the top of your Timeline is a green or blue button. If that button is blue, click it. It
should turn green. After the green dot appears at the top of your Timeline, real-time
effects are enabled on your system.
After the real-time effects are enabled, you can see if you can play back an effect. If the
effect on your Timeline is blue, it is not a real-time effect and needs to be rendered. If
the effect is green, you probably won’t need to render it until you’re finished with your
sequence.
Note: If you are using a Mojo, the effects are all real time, and no dots appear.
Note: I talk more about the Title Tool button in Chapter 7.
