CHAPTER 6: IMPORTING, EXPORTING, AND DIGITAL CUT ■
First, go to the Project window and click the Settings tab. Locate the Deck Con-
figuration settings and double-click.
It may take a moment or two for the deck templates to load. The deck templates
contain information about how to control the most commonly used decks. If your deck
is not among the templates, you can still use a generic template and configure it for
your deck.
If this is your first time using Deck Configuration, you need to click the Add
Channel button. The Channel Options appear. You can choose between Direct (RS-422)
and OHCI (IEEE 1394, or FireWire).
On Windows machines, usually an RS-422 to RS-232C adapter, such as Addenda’s
Rosetta Stone, is used for controlling the deck. The deck is therefore connected to one
of the two RS-232C serial ports built into your system. On Windows systems, you
must choose between the Com 1 and Com 2 RS-232C ports.
On Mac Systems, RS-422 control can also be established. It requires either a
serial-to-USB adapter such those made by Keyspan or a third-party card, such as Gee
Three’s Stealth card. The Keyspan adapter and the Stealth card (and many others like
them) allow direct connection between the RS-422 connector on the deck and the card
on your Mac. In Deck Configuration, this is shown as the Direct choice.
If you are using a hardware codec or a Mojo and want RS-422 control, you
should choose either the Com 1/Com 2 selection (Windows) or the Direct selection (Mac).
After you add your channel, it’s time to add a deck. Click the Add Deck button,
and the Deck Selection window appears. In order to properly select a deck, you
must choose the manufacturer first. For example, if your deck is a Sony DSR-11 (see
Figure 6.25), choose Sony. The list of Sony configured decks appear. Scroll down the
list and select DSR-11.
