■ EXPORTING
number of settings available depends upon the type of computer, the enabled media
capabilities, and the amount of software that you own. My system is lacking in this
department, yet I have a choice of 27 different codecs. After your codec is selected, you
can select a quality setting below the pull-down menu.
With some codecs, you have even more options! Are you counting how deep
the option menus go? So far, we’re up to number four. Try this: Select the Avid Meri-
dien Compressed codec and then click yet another options button below the quality
adjustment. Now you have a choice of even more ways to compress the media (see
Figure 6.20). There are so many codecs on the market that it would be impossible to
discuss the details of each one here.
Audio Codecs
You can choose from a variety of audio codecs. Uncompressed is usually the way to go,
unless you have a need to compress the audio in a different format for a special pur-
pose. Be sure that the sampling rate and sample size are the same as your audio project
sample to avoid downsampling issues. Audio files do not take up a lot of space, so you
can be bold here.
Prepare for Internet Streaming
The last item on the list of Format Options are the choices that can be made when
creating a QuickTime for video streaming (see Figure 6.21). There are three:
• Fast Start
• Fast Start–Compressed Header
• Hinted Streaming
