The Capture Button
The red button with a little white dot is the Capture button. Click it once to begin
capturing and click it again to stop. The black box to the right of the Capture button is
the recording indicator. When you tell Xpress Pro or Free DV to capture, it flashes red,
until you instruct your system to stop capturing.
The Trash Can Button
Clicking the trash can button gives Free DV or Xpress Pro an “abort mission”
command. The capture process ceases and any media created during that capture is
toast. Be careful when clicking this button: After you click it, there’s no way to get
your media back from the last capture.
There are some built-in safeguards, however. When you click the Trash Can
button, it will still ask if you want to keep or discard the media that you captured. The
reason for this kind of safeguard is that Avid created editing systems for the computer-
challenged editor. These days, most editors know their way around a computer. Even
