CHAPTER 2: CAPTURING ■
You can also use a variety of audio sources, depending upon whether you have a
Mojo connected to your system. For those who do not have Mojo, the inputs are
OHCI (default), MIDI, CD Audio, Line In, and Mic In (see Figure 2.25). This also
depends on your computer configuration. Again, if you have a transcoder, you can
originate from any audio source—a VHS deck, a professional DigiBeta deck, even a
live microphone—to OHCI format.
Figure 2.25 Connectors on the optional Mojo
For those with Mojo, the audio inputs are RCA (–10 dBu) and OHCI (see
Figure 2.26). Because the Mojo takes over your system, the other inputs mentioned
previously—Midi, CD Audio, Line In, and Mic In—are not available. When these are
needed, you can disconnect the Mojo (shutting down the computer first) and restart
Xpress Pro.
So how do you address the issues of line level input going to RCA and RCA
input going in at –10 dB? There are a couple of options to help. One is to adjust the
signal of the source so that it reaches an optimum level as it passes through the Mojo.
The other is to adjust your Audio Project Settings Input tab from 0 dB to +6 dB, or
whatever appears to be the optimal input on your audio meters.
Naming and Commenting Clips
Somewhere along the line, you’ll want to name each clip. It’s better for organizational
purposes to do it during digitizing and to get it right the first time. Like tape naming,
the sooner you get the correct information in, the easier editing will be. The Clip Name
entry box allows you to do this before or during the capture of each clip (see Figure 2.27).
