TITLES
video underneath your title. It uses a fairly common method of color picking,
but if you like the more traditional circular color wheel, you can select it by
clicking the circle button in the tool. You can also tear off this color palette
(see Figure 7.8) and use it while you work.
There is also an eyedropper tool. If you want your background to match an
object on the screen, click the eyedropper and click it again when you move it
over the desired color.
The last button in this group is the V button , which determines whether
you want the Title tool background or a video background underneath your
title. When you want video, the V on this button should light up with green.
When deselected, the V is white.
Now we’ll move on to another group of objects that define fonts, alignment,
kerning, and leading.
When clicked, the font key will show you all the available fonts for your tool.
Before we continue, let’s talk about fonts a little. Fonts come in two varieties: screen
fonts and printer fonts. Printer fonts are used for printing; screen fonts for displaying.
Simple, right? So, for example, if your client brings you a font to produce titles, he or
she must give you the screen font (and the printer font, if you’re going to do some
desktop publishing or anything like that). So if a font looks jaggy to you with ragged
edges that were not intended (see Figure 7.9), it’s probably because your system couldn’t
find a screen font.
Figure 7.9 Jaggy fonts
on-screen indicate that
a printer font was used.
