TUTORIAL: BUILDING A TIMELINE
You have now replaced a portion of shot 7 and left a black hole where shot 2
previously existed.
Customizing and Saving Your Timeline View
The Timeline Fast menu provides you with a number of options for customizing and
saving your Timeline view. We’ll start by coloring the background of the Timeline:
1. Deselect all tracks on the record side of the track selector.
2. Go to the Fast menu and select a background color. The background should
change to the color you select.
3. From here, you can select a track or several tracks and follow the same procedure.
Any tracks selected will change to the color you specify. As you select the tracks,
the Background Color specification on the Fast menu changes to Track Color.
To save your configuration, go to the bar at the bottom of your Timeline, which
should be labeled Untitled. Click it and save it with a unique name (see Figure 4.40).
Now, whenever you are working on a project you can recall your color scheme on
the Timeline.
Deleting Clips
You can also use Extract/Splice and Lift/Overwrite for quick deletion:
1. Load the Moving Segments sequence and select the Lift Overwrite button.
2. Click Segment 6 and press Delete, which deletes Segment 6 and leaves a black
hole where it was located.
Now we’ll try the same thing with Extract/Splice:
1. Click the yellow Extract/Splice key and select Segment 3.
2. Press Delete on your keyboard.
Note that instead of leaving a black hole, the other segments pulled up the
sequence to cover the area where 3 was located.
