TUTORIAL: MAKING THE FIRST EDIT
ened the sequence. So we can say that extracting will remove unwanted material and
pull up the material after it.
You can use Splice and Extract to do subtractive editing as well. If you laid
down the entire clip, marked an in and out point on each section to be removed, and
then used Extract, it would pull out unwanted pieces and pull together the elements
that remained. Using this method, you mark the edits to be pulled out, not the edits to
place in the sequence.
Undo and Redo
The Undo/Redo buffer (see Figure 3.56) allows for 32 different actions, as mentioned
before. You can undo (Ctrl+Z/F+Z) or redo (Ctrl+R/F+R) any actions that you’ve
done that alter either the Source or Record sides of your sequence.
Figure 3.56 The Undo/Redo buffer
This buffer works only in a linear way. For example, let’s say you did the
following:
1. Mark In Source
2. Mark Out Source
3. Mark In Record
4. Splice
So the Splice was the last thing that you did. And now, you want to undo the
Mark In on the Record side. If you Undo it, you will have to also undo the Splice,
which was done after it. In other words, you cannot selectively undo or redo. These
functions work in the buffer chronologically, or as they occurred.
