THE CAPTURE TOOL: DECK, CAMERA, AND TIMECODE CONTROLS
If the deck is controlled by Xpress Pro and is put in Remote mode, every time
that you insert a new tape, the Select Tape dialog box will appear (see Figure 2.31). If
you are controlling the deck manually, you can still change tape names by clicking the
Tape Name button at the bottom of the Capture tool.
Figure 2.31 Selecting a tape
In the Select Tape Dialog box, you will find the names of all tapes associated
with the current project. If the project is new, the tape list will be empty. If your tape
name isn’t in the list, click the New button, or press Ctrl+N/F+N. A new tape entry
appears at the bottom of the list. Type in the name of the new tape and press Return.
The tape name appears in the list and can now be selected.
If tapes were created in another project (if they were logged on another system,
for example), you need to use the Show Other Projects option. This option will let you
see the tape names that were assigned previously. From there, you can select the tape
without typing it in again.
Configuring Your Deck or Camera
Xpress Pro allows you to establish deck configurations for every camera or deck that
you own. The proper configuration of cameras and decks means total control of
peripherals through the software interface. Therefore, it is essential that your decks
and cameras be correctly identified and adjusted when capturing.
Note: Although it is possible to name tapes with phrases such as “Koala footage,it is much better to use
alphanumeric names. These names make tapes easier to sort and ensure that each is unique.Like all produc-
tion workflows, you should name the tape and make sure that the name you choose on the Avid is written
somewhere on the physical tape itself.Otherwise, you could get easily lost.
