Icon Action
Title Tool activates the Title tool (discussed in Chapter 7).
Effects Mode activates Effects mode (discussed in Chapter 7).
Add Keyframes adds keyframes in the Effects or Audio Automation modes.
Collapse Tracks allows you to collapse multiple video tracks into one single
embedded track,which works well when adding a transition effect from a multi-
ple video track section to a single track of video instead of having to add transi-
tions to each layer of the track.
Grid adds a title-safe and action-safe grid to whichever monitor is selected.
Go To In Point goes to the in point on the active monitor (Source or Record).
Go To Out Point goes to the out point on the active monitor (Source or Record).
Splice splices an edit.
Overwrite overwrites an edit.
EQ activates the audio equalizer menu (Xpress Pro only).
Activates Automation Gain does not work in Free DV,but you can select Auto Gain
through the hamburger at the bottom left of the Timeline and add keyframes to
adjust levels.
Audio Punch In Tool activates audio punch in,where you can record from an exter-
nal source (e.g.,a microphone) and record directly to the Timeline (Xpress Pro only).
Audio Suite enables the Digidesign Audio Suite menu,in which you can add
Digidesign audio effects such as reverb and echo (not available on Free DV).
Note: Click the Fast Menu button,and move your mouse over it to the right bottom icon .If you
jerk the mouse a little,the Fast menu detaches itself.You can move this icon box onto the desktop and use it
to give yourself more functions.
Note: All the icons for Audio Suite, Audio Punch In,Automation Gain,and EQ are on the Fast menu button
palette for Free DV.When you click them,however,the system will beep at you and do nothing more.I believe
these buttons were left over from building Xpress applications,but they might entice you.
