■ A TOUR OF THE INTERFACE
Overwrite The Overwrite button creates a destructive edit. When using Overwrite, the
edit will destroy anything after it on the Timeline for the duration of that edit. If you
want to keep everything beyond your current edit intact, use the Splice button (with
sync locks turned on).
Trim Clicking this button enables Trim mode, which we will discuss later.
Go To Previous Edit This button moves to the previous edit in the sequence.
Go to Next Edit This button moves to the next edit in the sequence.
Timecode Registers
The Timecode registers on the Source and Record monitors are located at the top cen-
ter of the interface (see Figure 3.45). The registers allow you to display a variety of dif-
ferent timecodes, including the master timecode, original timecode from the source
tape, the duration from the marked in point to the marked out point, the absolute loca-
tion of the media from the beginning of the clip, and the remaining time of the clip
from where it is currently parked. The Record monitor register (see Figure 3.46) also
allows for showing footage and code from the original film.
