CHAPTER 4: THE TIMELINE
Working with Tracks: Track Panel Selectors
As mentioned in the last chapter during the walkaround of the GUI, the track panel
selectors of the Timeline (see Figure 4.1) appear on the left side of the space where
your sequence is represented. These selectors are indicators of which tracks are available
on both source and record media. These selectors appear in two columns: the left side
indicators are for the Source clip, and the right column of track selectors are for the
record sequence.
Source Track Panel
In the track panel selectors, the Source track panel represents the tracks that have been
created when you captured or imported your source. These track names cannot be
changed, because they were created when the source was created. So when you’ve
captured a clip containing video and channel 1 of an audio source (see Figure 4.2), the
Source track panel selectors appear, indicating video and audio channel 1. When you
import a visual file with no audio whatsoever, the Source track panel selectors will
indicate that only a video track is available as source.
Of course, there is no possible method of capturing to video track 2, so your
Source panel indicators will never show a second video track. Furthermore, you cannot
add additional tracks once the source has been created (either through the Capture tool
or by importing sources.)
