■ WORKING WITH TRACKS: TRACK PANEL SELECTORS
Patching Tracks
Sometimes, you will want to patch tracks. For example, if you have music on Source
track 1 and want your music to be on Record track 2, you’ll need to patch it. The indi-
vidual track selectors line up by default. That is, normally the Source track panel selec-
tor for audio 1 is always next to the Record track panel selector for audio 1, which
simplifies the process in case you want to patch directly, track to track.
In many cases, however, you’re not going to want to go from a source to its cor-
responding track on the record side, so you’ll have to patch. To patch tracks, do the
following:
1. On the Source track panel selector, click the track in the track selectors that you
want to patch from.
2. Drag it to the track on the Record track panel selector that you want to patch to
(see Figure 4.8).
Obviously, you cannot patch an audio track to a video track. If you don’t believe
me, try it.
3. The tracks will line up alongside each other. The patch is complete.
An alternate way to patch is achieved by clicking the Source track panel selector
and holding down the mouse. A list of available tracks appears. Pick the track that you
want to patch to (see Figure 4.9). Once selected, the Source track panel selector that
you chose lines up with the Record track panel selector that you chose. Your patch is
complete.
