CHAPTER 4: THE TIMELINE ■
Video and audio tracks can also be added by way of the contextual menu: Park
your cursor over the Timeline and (Windows) right-click or (Mac) Ctrl+Shift-click to
reveal commands for adding tracks.
Deleting Tracks
In some cases, you might find it necessary to delete a track in your sequence. To do
this, click the Record track panel selector of the track to be deleted. You cannot delete
tracks from sources using this method. Make sure that all other track selector panels
on the Record side are off. Press Delete. A warning will appear, asking if you really
want to delete the selected track (see Figure 4.16). Answer yes, and the track is deleted.
If you press Cancel, the track will remain.
When you add another track, it will appear as the previously deleted selection. If
you change your mind, you can always undo it—as long as it was done within the last
32 tasks and is on the Undo/Redo list.
Enlarging and Reducing Track Sizes (Xpress Pro Only)
Sometimes, making your tracks larger can give you more information. For example, you
can show audio clip gain and audio automation gain in your audio tracks. Or if you
have clip names or other information inside the clips of audio or video tracks in the
Timeline that seem infinitesimally small, you might want to enlarge the tracks. Another
example is if you are working with so many tracks that you have to scroll up and down
in the Timeline window to see them all. In this case, you’ll want to reduce their sizes.
• To make your tracks visually larger, click the Timeline window, activate the
tracks, then press Ctrl+L/F+L. Each time you do this, the selected track becomes
vertically larger.
• To reduce track size, select the Timeline window, activate the tracks that you
want to shrink, then press Ctrl+K/F+K. This will reduce the vertical track size in
the same increments.
• Another way to change the track width is to place your cursor below the track
panel of the track you want to resize, right in the border between your track and
the one below. Notice the cursor changes its appearance. When the cursor changes,
click and hold the mouse and drag downward to enlarge the track or upward to
reduce the size.
