■ EXPORTING
With Xpress Pro, you can also export the following:
• Sequences for use on other systems
• MPEG streams for use with DVD authoring
• Export files for a transfer between Avid systems
• Sequences to other applications for use
Save files to Avid Links, such as Audiovision, D\S Compositions, or Pro Tools
formats.
Export Settings Templates
With Xpress Pro and Free DV, you have three export templates that were created for
you. To look at these, click the hamburger (Fast menu) in your Project window in the
settings area and select All Settings. These templates are as follows:
• Fast Export as QuickTime Movie
• Macintosh Image
• Windows Image
Let’s go over each of these preset options and discuss.
Fast Export as QuickTime Movie
Using this setting creates a fast export of a QuickTime movie using the Avid DV codec.
It creates a movie that is Same As Source, meaning that the exported QuickTime will
be the same size as the captured source footage when you are using the Avid DV codec.
If you have the optional Mojo, you can export an uncompressed sequence to Quick-
Time as well.
A lot of old-timers like me once thought that QuickTime was a dubious sort of
file format. These days, it is not only essential to use QuickTime, it is quite a lifesaver.
QuickTime formats are used for everything, all the way to film size (4K) files.
Macintosh Image
When you use this setting, it exports a single PICT file that is determined by your
marked in point in the sequence. Photoshop for Windows reads rasterized PICT files
only. However, some other Windows applications can open it.
Windows Image
This setting exports a single BMP file. Like its Macintosh counterpart, a marked in
point determines which single frame is exported. To simplify my own personal settings,
I changed the Windows Image Export Setting to BMP and the Macintosh Image Export
to PS MAC.
