■ THE TOOLSETS
The Project window will switch tabs to reveal the Effect palette using this
toolset. (You can alternately reveal a floating Effect palette by pressing Ctrl+8/F+8.)
The Effect Editor also is displayed, which shows all the parameters for the selected
effect. We’ll discuss the Effect Editor in detail in Chapter 7.
Audio Editing Toolset
Like Effects Editing, the Audio Editing toolset (shown in Figure 3.8) optimizes the
interface so that you can adjust and control the audio levels during a mix. The inter-
face is similar to the setup for Effects Editing, except the Audio Mix tool opens instead
of the Effect Editor. On Xpress Pro, the Audio Automation Gain tool opens (Audio
Automation is not enabled on Free DV). Using Automation Gain, you can adjust
levels on the fly while your sequence is playing back.

Capture Toolset
The Capture toolset (shown in Figure 3.9) allows you to get ready for capturing new
media instantly by selecting it. The Capture tool is displayed, and a single monitor for
viewing captured media is shown, as it is with the Effect Editing, Audio Editing, and
Basic toolsets.
