PALETTE EFFECTS
Position
The Position group of parameters allows you to position the image from top to bottom
and left and right in the screen. The parameter values vary from -999 to 999, where a
0 value is center screen. The horizontal position (X axis) is called H Pos. The vertical
position (Y axis) is called V Pos. For horizontal positioning, negative values of H Pos
move the image to the left of center. Positive values of H Pos move the image to the
right of center. For vertical positioning, negative values of V Pos move the image up
from center screen. Positive values of V Pos move the image down from center screen.
Crop
The Crop parameter is useful for removing unwanted elements from a picture such as a
boom microphone or other nuisances. The Crop parameter can be of great assistance
when substandard images are used. For example, when VHS or U-Matic tapes are cap-
tured, there sometimes are muddled elements in the bottom of the picture (some people
refer to this as flagging, but it is actually the point in the picture where head switching
occurs between the two video heads that scan the tape). In some cases, the vertical
blanking might show at the top of an image when it is scaled down for an effect. In
cases like these, the Crop parameter is a necessity.
Note: In addition to using the parameter sliders,Position and Scale parameters can be directly adjusted
by clicking and dragging the image in the monitor.Scale handles are indicated by white dots on the top and
side of the image. To position the image, click in the middle and drag it to the desired location.
Note: You can override the Fixed Aspect scaling button by directly adjusting the handles in the Record
monitor in Effects mode. You can also scale the image in increments of 25 percent by holding down the Shift
key when directly making adjustments via the handles in the Record monitor. If you want to return to the nor-
mal aspect ratio, click the Fixed Aspect button twice or grab the upper-right handle in the Record monitor. The
normal aspect ratio will return.
